ATI drivers not working

Can someone help me out??

I've got an ati x800 pro videocard and the distro im running is LFS version 6.0.
I've been trying to get ATI's proprietary drivers to work for a few days now, and i was wondering if someone could help me out and tell me what i should do to make em work.

Everything seems to compile ok, i can insert the module, when I run startx and after that lsmod I even see that programs are using the fglrx module (always 7) but when i run fglrxinfo i always get mesa drivers, and glxinfo says it's not using directrendering.

With glxgears I approximately get 350 fps, a bit low for a x800...

Here is my xorg.conf
Code:

I'm not able to post my Xorg.0.log, that's a bit too big...

In that i get 3 warnings,

(WW) fglrx(0): board is an unknown third party board, chipset is supported
(WW) fglrx(0): could not detect XFree86 version (query_status=-3)
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such device)

and no other errors.

Thanks

hi Gero, i got the same problem like yours. have you fix it now?

fglrx(0): driver needs XFree86 version: 4.3.x
(WW) fglrx(0): could not detect XFree86 version (query_status=-3)

if you have solved it, please inform me, thanks.

Yes, I've solved the problem, and it's very stupid

The fglrx package relies on gcc 3.3.4 libs, and because I had converted them to tarballs it had no dependency checking anymore. So once I installed gcc 3.3.4 hardware acceleration suddenly worked!

PS: Don't overwrite your current gcc installation when you install gcc 3.3.4!
