Be sure your kernel is compiled within the following options:

CONFIG_MODULES=y
CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD=y
CONFIG_KMOD=y
CONFIG_MTRR=y
CONFIG_AGP=m
CONFIG_AGP_chipset=m
CONFIG_DRM=y
CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m
CONFIG_FB is not set
CONFIG_TMPFS=y

After that you can install the ATI drivers which you can download from ATI official website:

ati-driver-installer-8.18.6-i386.run

This build the fglrx driver and the fglrx-kernel module for the xorg version that in my case I am using (6.8.1).

Then configure the xorg.conf file as follow (related with the problem):

Section "Module"
...
Load "GLcore"
Load "glx"
Load "dri"

Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI"
Driver "fglrx"
Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "off"
Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no"
BusID (PCI:1:0:0)
EndSection

After that, excute "modprobe fglrx" and restart the X

Good luck

Hello. tks for help...

i followed all steps...

My kernel was with all options ok...
Xorg.conf was good too, only thing i need add was Options lines but i still cant load the modules...

I got the same error:

root@DeepHell:~# modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.16/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

root@DeepHell:~# tail /var/log/syslog
May 24 17:07:45 DeepHell kernel: fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_unregister
May 24 17:07:45 DeepHell kernel: fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_get_request
May 24 17:07:45 DeepHell kernel: fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_put
May 24 17:07:45 DeepHell kernel: fglrx: Unknown symbol inter_module_register

I still have no idea how to fix it..

Look in my sig for the DRI link. It has an extensive ATI section.

(As an added bonus, it is in the Slackware forum. You'll find answers to all types of Slackware issue there. Try it. It's the 'Official' forum for Slackware)
