Unhappy ATI blues...

I started using Linux about a week ago and I'm having trouble getting X to use the ATI drivers. I'm running SUSE 10.0 kernel 2.6.13-15.7-default

I downloaded the installer from ATI, installed it, ran fglrxconfig. No errors. fglrxinfo still reports MESA drivers.

ok, tried this next
sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.20.8-i386.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE100-IA32
init 3
rpm -Uhv fglrx_6_8_0_SUSE100-8.20.8-1.i386.rpm
sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx -b /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/sax2-profile

fglrxinfo still reporting MESA drivers

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

I also have a ATI 9600. It took me a while before I found that I had to add a tmpfs.

1. Add the following line to /etc/fstab (if it isn't there already): tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
2. Mount shared memory as follows: mount /dev/shm
3. Issue the following command to check that it mounted properly: mount | grep "shm"

More info here: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...ng_ATI_drivers

I looked at fstab, it didn't have
tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
so i added it.
mount /dev/shm
already mounted to tmpfs

So it looks like i'm going to learn how to compile a kernel?
This will take a while,

Thanks for the help and especially the links
