ATI && NVIDIA Tweaking, whats going on?

Okay, so I have seen many times (and dealt with) posts on nvidia, and more often ati, cards and getting them to work.

So I have a ATI Radeon 7500 built into my Motherboard of my IBM Thinkpad A31, and an NVidia GeForce Ti200 Is that 3 or 2? cant remember..(My experience with ATI and NVidia points out that ATI gives more and does more under windows, while NVidia is just the same with linux)

Anyway, I remember some nice features that are built into the drivers. Such as controlling Vertical Sync, Anti-aliasing, and other compatibility tweaks and whatnot to optimize the card to the owners liking....

So the question is, how do I gain full control over my Video Card(s) under Linux. I want to be able to take control of my Anti-Aliasing, Force-16 or 32-bit features.

Obviously, my main concern is with OpenGL. But I am using Cedega (Winex's new name), so I may have use for tweaking Direct 3d. However, because I placed this is the HARDWARE forum, my main concerns right now is the tweaking of hardware settings....but if for some reason there are some optimizations for the hardware that specifically help OPENGL over Direct..choke..3D. Then please let me know.

To put it short for those who hate reading lots of text:
1) How do tweak the hardware/manufacturer settings of my ATI Radeon 7500 Card Under Linux
2) " " NVidia Ti200 " "
3) What are some specifically linux friendly optimizations?
