ATi 9600 Pro, and nForce2.
 

Hey, im relatively new to Linux, and im running MDK10. I've been loving every minite of it, since I started managing Linux boxes, and since I just recently coverted from Windoez about a week ago.

But here in lies my problem... I cannot seem to get my ATi 9600 Pro and my nForce2 SoundStorm to work properly. I've successfully installed a few multi disk games, but I cannot run them due to my GPU not having 3D support I guess. I installed the latest ATi drivers for 4.3. I guess they didn't work, or I did it wrong. Help?

Now for my SoundStorm... I cannot open up Teamspeak2 and hear other sound from other apps. As for that, the mic wasn't working, and I cannot hear anything in Teamspeak2. This is all with the Nvidia drivers installed. Help?

I am a huge gamer, and I need my games to co-exsist with Teamspeak2. So far no luck, I can't even run my games yet, thank you for all the help in advance.

Well where to start...

1. Firstly, YOU NEED kernel headers to properly link the ati-binaries..

2. Then you need to install the ati-binaries.

3. Then you need to run the fglrxconfig program.. to reconfigure your XF86Config-4 file.

4. Reboot.

5. run glxgears you should be getting at least 1800 fps...(if you are getting only a few 100. you have done something wrong)


As for your SoundStorm... If you haven't installed ALSA, that would probably be your best bet to access all the features of your soundcard.

Poke around the forums and the internet...it would be way too much detail for me to type.. But don't give up you'll get there

1. Install the source code to the kernel (OS core).

a. Check what version kernel are you using first, as Mandrake 10 comes with a 2.6.x and a 2.4.x kernel. Open up a console and type 'uname -r'. If it can't find the command, type 'su' and enter the root password.

b. I'm not too sure on this step, so correct me if I'm wrong. Open up the Mandrake control centre and launch the package installer (Urpmi, RPMdrake or something). Search for kernel-version, where version your kernel version from 1a. Install that package along with its dependencies. Insert the CDs when prompted. The installer is a little buggy, so it might crash here.

1c - 2.) Follow ATI's instructions to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
