I am using the newst version of mandrake which i believe comes with Xfree86 4.3. I am trying to install the ati.2 drivers made by GATOS. I really have no experience with doing ANYTHING hardware related, I have always just used Harddrake. Anway, i have followed the instructions several different ways and i always end up restarting my computer, and getting just the text login screen. From there i just re-install the whole operating system because i have no idea how to fix any of these things. i have successfully unpacked the drivers to the right place once or twice, but i have no idea what to do after that. I have also tried installing from an rpm package, which says that it installs, but, again, i don't know what to do from there. I think that i may need to install the drm-kernel from GATOS, which i have also tried with to no avail. I get error message whenever i try to use the "make" command. As i'm sure you have extrapolated from this post, I am a true newbie, but im trying to make the clean switch from windows. Please help!
