AthlonX2 - only one processor found - 2.6.11.4-20a-smp

i have an athlon 64 X2 4400+, running suse 9.3 (2.6.11.4-20a-smp). MB is VIA K8T890-9.

it seems to know that it is dual-core, but i can't tell if it's actually treating it as 2 processors. maya renders are not any faster than with the non-smp kernel, and my VR apps (sgi's OpenGL Performer Perfly) report only 1 available cpu. from /proc/cpuinfo, i see that it reports a dual-core correctly, and that there are 2 siblings ... is this the correct output, or should i be seeing a listing for processor 0 and processor 1?

What does top say.

I suggest any distribution but SUSE. Try using the latest stable kernel from kernel.org

in top, last cpu field is always 0; "I" or "1" says "sorry, only one cpu detected."

thanks for the help ... hopefully i can get this working w/o changing distros ;)

Try the latest stable vanilla kernel version from kernel.org.

(conclusion)

in case anyone else has a similar problem & stumbles on this:

that motherboard doesn't support dual-core. oops.

Get a Sempron and update the BIOS.
