Atheros AR5001x+Wireless troubles

Hello, I'm running mandrake 10.0. I can't seem to get my Atheros AR5001x+ wireless card to work. I know it's because I didn't isntall the drivers. I have the madwifi drivers. When I try to make them, I get an error that says the .config file does not exist inthe build directory. I don't have a build director. I tried changing the make.inc file but I'm a newbie and I didn't know what parameters to set. Can anyone help me?

You need to make sure that you installed the package for your kernel source first. If you look in /usr/src you should see a folder called linux-2.6.3-7mdk if your sources are installed (your numbers may be different depending on your kernel version). Then go to this link

http://www.mattfoster.clara.co.uk/madwifi-3.htm

and run the commands under section 3.3.

Now the discouraging part. I compiled my madwifi drivers correctly and the modules are loaded properly. I just don't know how to make the association between those modules and my card. When I try to configure my card they aren't in the list of available drivers. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Well, I installed Ferdora Core 2 and I ran the rpms and everything. It installed but now it's saying the damn hardware is not present. It's beggining to irritate me. (I know it's present I have ar511 atheros drivers installed on windows). :Pengy: :jawa: help.

Well, I don't know if you prefer one distro over another, but I know on suse 9.0 I had it working great. You just need your kernel source with the build linked as described on that page and you need sharutlis and it will work great. I don't know about suse 9.1 since I am still having trouble with that but you might want to give 9.0 a try. It is a great distro.
