ATA RAID Controller

I am trying to install slackware 10.2 onto a raid array (raid 1, 2x80GB). I have the two drives connected to a Silicon Image SiL0680 card. Supposedly, this card is a raid controller, but I don't get any "Press XXX to configure RAID" when booting.

When I booted from the installation CD, the kernel detected the card and attached drives (not mirrored) with no problem, but the BIOS doesn't see the drives when I reboot, so it doesn't know to boot from them. Is there something in the bios or on the card that I must change to make this work? Or will I be forced to drop some hard-earned cash on a real card?

The card is software RAID so you have to use dmraid in able to detect the RAID array in Linux. It is better to drop the RAID array and use Linux software RAID. An example of a hardware RAID controller is 3ware 8000 series or 3ware 9000 series.
