I am a newb to Linux.....I loaded 9.1 without any problems but I need it on the ATA 133 connection. when I booted it up on this IDE it would not run....is there a driver or patch for this? I have a Giga-byte GA-7VAXP MB with Promise PDC 20276 ATA 133 Any help would be appreciated...Thanks
It should load without issue, I think. the kernel has support for this controller so no extra driver should be needed. I use the PDC20265 controller which works well. you may wish to recompile your kernel with the support built in instead of as a module. what error messages are you getting?
Ok I'd like to see a copy of your /boot/grub/grub.conf or /etc/lilo.conf whichever your using and a copy of your /etc/fstab also the output of the command fdisk -l for the hard drive in question would be useful

by loaded, you mean installed, right?
but it will not boot?
maybe your install kernel is considering the promise
controller drive hde, and the kernel that got installed
considers it hda?
i mean the cdrom boot kernel supports the promise,
perhaps as a module, and even if the same kernel got
installed, the module can't load. you might need an
initrd, or a kernel with the promise support built in.

I have that very mobo - with Mandrake 9.1 on. I'm posting from it now. So, the board is compatible. In fact, it is certified compatible with 9.1, one of the few boards that are - http://www.mandrakesoft.com/out/hard...e_GA-7VAXP.pdf
I have the same bord and am running Linux Mandrake 9.1 and my ATA 133 is invisable to linux (it does show up in harddrake, but that is it. no access to my drives (my windoze and CD-burner)
