at76c503a compatible device on fedora core 2 - isnt found

I have just upgraded to fedora core 2 and am having trouble with my network card. It is an external wireless card based on atmel's at76c503a connecting via USB. I have installed the drivers from http://at76c503a.berlios.de/ and they have installed fine.

Using ifconfig and ifconfig, I get all the information on my device (setup as wlan0). However, fedora's network interface doesnt pick up the card. I have created a ifcfg-wlan0 file to get it working for dhcp(needs to be this to get the shared internet from another PC) and now the wlan0 connection shows up in the connections list. But it tries to use wlan0 as the device aswell, which it can't find as wlan0 is not under the device tab. I can't install it becaue fedora's wireless setup does not have the drivers for this card and it sets things up as eth devices anyway.

Is there any way that I can fix this so that wlan0 comes up properly on boot?
