ASUSTEK sound card problems..

I'm on SuSE 9.1...and I have some strange things hapenning with my sound. Any time I get say, an error message in SuSE, or an instant message in GAim, or just someting like that where it calls a sound, it plays back the sound incorrectlly. It sort of repeats...almost a bit of about 1/2 a second or so, and it repeats it several times. It then sort of begins to fade out...and eventually it stops. But instead of playing the normal sound, it bugs and plays it repeatedly. But if I'm in something like XMMS playing music, this doesnt happen. I just reinstalled ALSA after the problem got worse and nothing has changed. My sound card is: ASUSTEK AC97 Audio Controller (Integrated in mobo) Any help would be appreciated :o) -Cliekid |
Its probably incomplete codec support. In SuSe, KDE right? You are using the aRts sound server daemon. That's the first stop to debugging this one.

via82xx: Assuming DXS channels with 48k fixed sample rate.
Please try dxs_support=1 or dxs_support=4 option and report if it works on your machine. I think you can apply that with: alias snd-via82xx dxs_support=1 In /etc/modules.conf I think... I don't know for certain how to apply those to alsa modules, you can look those up on the alsa homepage. It still could be aRts making the driver bug out, but it looks like the driver bugging out. The via82xxx driver was very common and a billion versions of it were made so that makes sense that the driver needs options. Heck, even I've got one of those cards, never seen the alsa driver behave like that, but hardly ever used the sound either. Cheers, Finegan |
