Has anyone been able to get linux working on this motherboard? I turned off the fast boot & still can't get it to install.

I have z87 plus here (needed the Old PCI port for a soundcard I have)

I installed Slackware on it, didn't have to do special things to make it works. For the first time boot, I needed a usb boot key to boot in installed system though, then I used efibootmgr to make entry in efi bootloader.

I suspect the mobo doesn't load the efi boot partition ef00 by default, you have to add manually entry with efibootmgr, I could be wrong but I made the test with usb key and it sees efi bootloader if it's on regular fat partition made with fdisk (eg not ef00 with gdisk)

Edit, of course in EFI setup, I have set Secure boot to Other OS...

Hi:

Looking at the specifications on your mobo I see that it has the new UEFI BIOS so maybe disabling the secure boot might help.
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87DELUXE/

http://linux.die.net/man/8/efibootmgr

I have the new click BIOS which are UEFI + Legacy and it took me a while looking around in the BIOS trying to figure out how disable the secure boot. What I don't like about the new click BIOS is that UEFI & Legacy is tided together and I can't switch to just Legacy-

The efibootmgr is a linux command. I can not get linux to load so that is not going to work. I have looked for the secure boot option several times but can not find it. Any ideas?

Which BIOS do you have? The new Phoenix BIOS?

In your BIOS Main Menu at the top of the screen it should say what BIOS you have or when your system first boots at that screen the type of BIOS shows.

If your still not sure look in your mobo book-

I have an H-87 Plus, which is similar.

There's one screen where you can choose your "Operating System" and the choices are "Windows" and "Other OS". "Windows" means "Secure Boot On", "Other OS" means "Secure Boot Off".

My bios screen says it is a ASUS UEFI Bios. And it does not have the secure boot or anything about an OS on any section. Maybe there is a bios update the needs to be installed.

You have to find the tiny scroll bar at the page when you turned Fast Boot off, then scroll page down

If in EZ mode, go to Advanced, then Boot

I have turned off fast boot & set the secure boot to other os. Linux still won't install. I have tried an Ubuntu 14.04 disk & a disk that was included with a Linux magazine. The computer attempts to boot from the DVD & appears to start loading but just stops after several minutes. I have left it on that screen for 15 minutes with no further action. My bios has the latest update (2103). Any more ideas?

I would try a different CD, ie knoppix with some of the failsafe boot parameters, or slackware. Shocking as it may be, the latest and greatest Ubuntu sometimes doesn't boot, or at least without some help (personal experience on a recent ASUS board).

Do you have your machine set to boot to the CDROM drive first in the boot priority in the BIOS?
Make sure you have the correct .iso image for your computers architecture.
-:-32-bit or 64-bt-:-

FWIW, I had a terrible time with Ubuntu booting so I installed Slackware on my first machine and Linux Mint 17 on my second machine w/o any problems-
