Use tvtime instead. It is a lot lighter than kdetv. If it still does not work, download a vanilla kernel from kernel.org. I prefer people do not use SUSE because Novel is taking over it and making it proprietary.

I was under the impression that the opposite has been the case under Novell's stewardship - aren't they actively courting community involvement with the OpenSuSE project?

Tvtime does not find signal. xawtv finds channels, but only shows black window instead of TV.

chips: tda8275, tda8290, SAA7135HL/101 CDO315 08 TSG04241, HEF4052BT

Are all these chips supported by linux.

This looks like a problem with your X setup. Try starting xawtv with the -noxv option. If that works, then I think you're going to have to start digging into the xv setup for your graphics card.

As for TVTime, if my memory serves me correctly, there was a bug in its working with 7134-based cards on first use (ie, when no channels have been tuned), not sure about 7135.. Anyway, I think the way around it was to expressly state which card input to use when starting TVTime for the first time.. I *think* that solved the problem - and you only need to do that once; after channels have been tuned, you'll be OK. Check the TVTime man page for details of syntax & options.

xawtv should not be used with video capture cards that uses saa713x chips because it will not work all the time. tvtime is only program to use to test the card. I suggest testing the Composite and S-Video connections first. Then configure it to use the tuner. Setting up the tuner is a trial and error setup because you have to go down the list to find out what tuner will work better for your card. What I read getting sound to work in other countries that does not use NTSC is hard to make it work. Though if the card does not have a line out jack, then you have to edit the saa7134 code to handle sound from the Line in jack because for now it only works for the tuner and a sampling rate of 32000.

The saa7135 is in the same series that saa7134 is in. The module saa7134 should be renamed to saa713x.

Tvtime seems to work, but one channel was not found.
It may be because of antenna location. Anyway tvtime works best for me.
