ASUS P4V8X-X Motherboard and ACPI problems........?
I'm having a problem, well not really a "PROBLEM", that is bugging me to death. Currently, I'm dual booting Windows XP Professional and Mandriva 2009. Before I can boot from Windows back to Mandriva Linux, I have to enter my BIOS and disable ACPI. Then, to go back to Windows, I have to enter the BIOS again and re-enable ACPI. If I don't do this, neither OS will boot. My question is, how can I leave ACPI enabled, permanently, and STILL boot into Mandriva 2009? Is this possible?

You need to edit your /boot/grub/menu.lst file and make the following change:
acpi=off <--add this to the end of the kernel boot line. |

Just for my knowledge, can you define "kernel boot line"? Sorry, I'm obviously very "green" with Linux. |
This is what the line looks like:
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=UUID=b8701dfe-c3ae-47b8-9638-9a03710cb3ea resume=UUID=85f6479e-53be-4ecd-99a2-16c44c3bec51 splash=silent vga=788 acpi=off <--this is where you add this parameter. |

Stick it on the end of the "title linux" one.
