I am planning to assemble a new system for myself I have worked on fedora core 3,4,5 on mercury boards with p4 2.4 Ghz
things were fine but I have read a lot of posts for LAN dirvers missing or not working and same problem with Mouse detection on ASUS boards and some other vendors
my vendor suggested me not to buy a new system to work in linux
the cheapest and latest that I am getting is
AMD 64 X2 3600+ on a ASUS board (via deltachrome)
that has
following chipset

North Bridge VIA K8M 890
South Bridge VIA VT 8237R plus
realtek 8100C
realtek 8139

I faced problems in compliling kernels for Ubuntu for ASUS board
K8V VM Ultra
though ASUS give the drivers for Linux on thier CD but they did not worked in Fedora Core 3,4 they worked in 5

I am very frightened to buy this configuration I don't want to go any kernel compilation or forum searches for
editing one or two lines on the .c files of drivers can any one suggest me that would the above said configuration work well in FC6 or any prior versions
of Fedora
else I would switch to other O.S. or what should I buy that would work well on Fedora some second hand system as my vendor is giving
