Question Asus A8V-VM

Hi there...

I am fairly new to running a linux system and have recently built a computer and installed it with Fedora Core 6.

I am able to run KDE and Gnome windows managers ok using the standard VGA driver but am interested to know whether there is an actual driver for the VIA onboard graphics to allow me to run applications like Google Earth etc?

The board I am running is the Asus A8V-VM Board, 80GB SATA HDD, 512MB Ram - 64mb Shared VGA (Minimum can share)

I know that the onboard 3D graphics work fine for the Microsoft operating systems but am interested to see if I can get my new Linux system to run these applications.

If this is not possible I will need to purchase a separate PCI-E graphics card. Does anybody know which type is easier to set up in Linux - Nvidia or ATI?

Many Thanks

D C

You could try this site to get the integrated video working. As far as nVidia or ATI, I always found nVidia drivers to have the simplest setup (works for me).

My Linux Box is running BLAG 60000 with Giga-Byte graphics adapter chipset is ATI Radeon 9200 PROL right after install and functions correctly. No tweak, just clear text. BLAG is built (Thank YOU for your efforts) on Fedora Core 6 open source software. So IMO it will work for Your installation...unless your Vid card is exotic or demanding on system resources. Vid cards need drivers: memory; processor time, cooling and IRQ's to function in various applications. I haven't tried NVidia yet...Good Luck to YOU.
