asus a7v600 + linux
Hello everybody!!!
i would like to know if anyone has a asus a7v600 motherboard and has a linux operating system working with that motherboard without problems. i am planning to install Red Hat 9 or Slackware and i don't know if i will face any problems. thanks |
why would you ecpect any problems? it's from a well know and respected manufacturer. i say go for it. i would suspect the motherboard LAST if you run into any problems. winmodems rank first (in my humble opinion). western digital hard drives can lead to file system corrutions. some hardware might not work such as older obscure scanners, multifunction devices, etc. but if you have standard equipment, then i'd expect nothing but smooth sailing. good luck.

I have this motherboard, I have installed slackware and i have some problems with lan gigabit and with sata raid, but the motherboard work correctly, the lan gigabit driver is on www.asus.con website but it doesnt make correctly, however tomorrow i try again with more time.

a7v600 & sata
This is mostly to maxtox about the a7v600. Is sata working in a non raid setup,
& what kernel moduals or driver are u using. |
any 1 mind doing a hdpram -i and posting
any 1 mind doing a hdpram & / hdpram -i dev/hdx on the sata controler than posting
|
I, too, would like to know if the SATA controller works without raid. The latest drivers for the gigabit lan work perfect for me on Mandrake 9.1 and Mandrake 9.2.
|
I found what i was looking for
I foud that only 2.6.0test4 and newer will do via kt600 S-ATA
|
I've got the same problem where the 3com won't work with Mandrake 9.1 and when I went looking for drivers I was unable to find any for linux if anyone knows where to find them could you please let me know.

cdlorange: Use the SysKonnect sk98lin driver (SysKonnect SK-98xx Gigabit). Depending on your distribution, you may already have “SysKonnect SK-98xx Gigabit” as a NIC option. I have the A7V600 loaded with Fedora, which has the SK-98 in the NIC list. For some reason, the NIC could not be detected using that definition, so I manually loaded the drivers following the SysKonnect instructions.
The driver can be found several pages in at http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect...02_driver.html Use the “Open Source Linux” driver as a module for kernel 2.4.13 and above (install-624.tar.bz2). It takes about 10 minutes to install. Be sure to read the “read me” instructions. You can read a lot about these drivers by searching this forum for “3C940" or “3C2000". |
thank you I will try those drivers tomorrow

a7v600 Asus
suse 9.1
SATA is doa, lots of hard work for any newbee to get working. ( doa = dead on arrival) PATA 200gig works perfect. my JAZ 1 and 2 gig HDD are ok , my Sony CRX 185 and Toshiba 5112 DVD are ok ( no , K3B is DOA on burn) save a million hours setting it up. All usb devices work, except my rotton hub. mouse, kbd, camera S602Z Umax scanner, external usb harddrive, ok. all scsi hdd are OK. ( think adaptec AHA-xxxx) VIDEO: always buy Nvidia , and Linux will NEVER CRASH. Even a cheap TNT1 or TNT2 or a old Geforce is ok , they are all supported in the Unified driver. The baseline driver is just BASIC, ok ? You must load the new driver , via the SUSE web site , upgrade feature to get 3d. or following Nvidia instructions on there web site about , loading the *.run file. only reason for XP is , NERO 6.x to burn DVDs good luck Never had a Linux Crash. 4 years running. |
What do you mean about SATA is hard to get working? No kernel support? Buggy? On all SATA drives or on some "special" (buggy, etc...) ones?
I plan to use it. |
with a new kernel it is easy
most distros use kernels that are too old try gentoo you can pic your kernel by hand
sata raid is rock stable is rock stable here |
sata
usenet: ( lots to read)
Results 1 - 10 of about 24,600 for linux SATA. (0.80 seconds) , bleed , bleed. of course it works, you just have to play with it for a week and not have a life. just like usb just like automount SUSE 9.1 |
I see..
Kernel 2.6.7 and SATA works fine for me.. But ATi's driver doesn't compile any more with the new kernel. |
Disaster with me - change mobo
