Asterisk Hardware Questions

I was planning on setting up an Asterisk server for fun but I have a few questions before I start.

1. To connect the phone to the computer, do I need any special hardware or will any old modem do?

2. I have AT&T Callvantage VoIP and I got this little black box that converts standard phone cords to ethernet and then connects to the internet. Is there a way I could put the Asterisk box in between the Internet and this box so I don't need a modem in my computer to talk into the phone?

Ex:
Router ------ Asterisk ------ Phone to Ethernet box ------ Phone

3. Is there any software that will let me dial out and receive calls using a (different) computer such as my laptop?

Any help is appreciated!

check out http://www.x100p.com/ they have a x100p card that works with Asterix for $30.00. I have purchased a couple of these cards and they work flawlessly.

fxs - connects standard telephone to ethernet for VOIP
fxo - connects VOIP servr to standard telehone line so VOIP phones can call out over standard telco lines. if you want to use asterix as an answering machine for home on your standard phone line for instance

Asterix should be able to talk to your VOIP provider directly
There are quite a few software VOIP phones available.

Check the asterix wiki for recommendations
