Apple 30" Display under RHEL 4 - nVIDIA GeForce 8600 the way to go?
My bosss wants to share his new Apple 30" Cinema Display between his MacBook and a Dell running RHEL 4.
ATI said they don't have a linux-compatible dual-link DVI card that could drive it. Nvidia says their GeForce 8 series will do the trick and I'm eyeing the GeForce 8600 GTS Just wondering if anyone has used this Nvidia card under RHEL 4 to drive a large monitor. Dissatisfied? Any particular "gotchas" I should know beforehand? - Van |
I haven't used the 8600 with RHEL but I have used other nVIDIA products that worked great. I suggest you contact either evga or whomever is the manufacturer of the card (nVIDIA makes the chipset) and ask them a quick question about it to be safe.
Not the greatest answer in the world, but it's my two cents. Good luck, and let us know how it went. Taj Sandhu Network Operations Technician |
Thanks Taj. Good answer! I've put in more ram and hard drives than ever dealing with video cards. I hadn't realized Nvidia was only the chip and not the card maker itself.
