Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

apcupsd usb no devices

I have recently installed apcupsd on two linux machines. One works flawlessly, the other cannot find a USB device. Odd mix of problems:

May 3 07:44:07 therese kernel: usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 4
May 3 07:44:16 therese kernel: usb 2-2: new low speed USB device using address 5
May 3 07:44:18 therese kernel: hiddev96: USB HID v1.10 Device [American Power Conversion Smart-UPS 3000 RM FW:666.6.D USB FW:2] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-2

[root@Catherine dev]# grep ^S /proc/bus/usb/devices
S: Manufacturer=Linux 2.6.9-34.ELsmp uhci_hcd
S: Product=UHCI Host Controller
S: SerialNumber=0000:00:1d.3

There are no *hid* devices in the /dev directory.

Hotswap appears to be configured. I have rebooted the machine with the USB cable connected to the UPS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Dale
