Background:

I was using Knoppix as a file server on an older PII computer, when my apartment was hit by lightening. The strike blew out the NIC (no LED light), but I used another Knoppix disk to rescue the data (yes the computer was on a UPS, but I took a direct hit).

I'm going to be buying a new computer in the next few weeks to replace the damanged one.

My question is, is there anyway to test the hardware to see what is still working and what isn't working so I know when I go to buy new parts.

I'm thinking these may have options:
-Knoppix
-Ultimate Boot Disk

you can run the memory tests and cpu test on ubcd.
besides that not much you can do except test if something works the way it is supposed to.
