anyone using DVI cable w/ Viewsonic monitor successfully?

As far as I can tell, nVidia cards w/ viewsonic LCD screens do not work with DVI connections in Linux. I found numerous instances on google of this problem and I am experiencing the same thing with my hardware. It will work fine in windows. It will work fine in Linux at first, but after a reboot or power off, and the DVI connection gets lost and the monitor goes into permanent standby mode; windows or linux, it doesn't matter. Then the VGA cable must be used and that looks horrible compared to the DVI.

The only fix I found is to run a program called DVI-Recovery from a floppy and that wakes the DVI input on the monitor back up. Then it will work again, until rebooting a linux session. But I sure don't want to do this every time. This is really a bummer, as I would like to load Linux on my new machine. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution? Besides a new monitor? This monitor is less than a year old and looks awesome in windows w/ the native res set.
