Great speakers

I have a similar problem with a CMI8378 sound card. 5.1 sound supported but from I can gather, it can only be enabled by recompiling the kernel to support therear channels. The generic CMI driver in Linux doesn't install surround by default.

I believe the correct term is SPDIF support, though I haven't time to look at this too much. (Any one care enlighten us?)

CMI have Linux drivers and support on their website (my next stop). Have you tried the ASUS website? If you run make xconfig as root, it should open up a kernel configuration option, check and see if your sound card is supported, but don't change anything usless you are comfortable compiling kernels.

I'll check back ito see how you are going and I'll let you know anything I stumble across.
