Well, one of my mates had this macbook. He poured some coke over it by accident. The guys at the repair shop said that the motherboard and processor was gone, so they told him to buy a new one. He doesn't have the cash, so I suggested that we find a way of fitting another motherboard into it, and install linux in it. So anyone knows of a good motherboard, which could fit inside this thing (21cm x 31cm) which works good with Linux, and is it even possible to this this or is it a stupid idea ?! Any other ideas on how to use this burnttop?
Are you sure it is really a write-off? There is a solvent spray you can get at some electronics shops which drives out moisture from circuit boards and similar. Sorry - I forget the name of the product or exactly what it contains, but it did fix a mobile phone that had been dropped in the toilet
Carefully strip down the equipment as far as you can, give it a good hosing with solvent, gently dry it off with a hair dryer, keep fingers crossed.

Hey,
I'm much better at the hardware end of things than I am with software. It would be possible to reinstall the mobo with a new CPU. Chanes are you'd have to get in contact with Apple and see if they still manufacture that particular mobo/CPU. You'd be hard pressed to find another mobo that will fit your form factor. It will be difficult if you've never done it before, but it's not impossible. Make diagrams, GROUND YOURSELF FIRST, and try not to break anything. I would finding the solvent first and trying that, but if the Coke was split while it was on or you tried to turn it on while there was still Coke on any electrical component... you're screwed.
I recommend clean all the parts inside the notebook and let them dry for a week. Then put the pieces back together again and try to power up the computer. The high sugar content of the drink decreases the conductivity of the water, so there is a good chance the notebook computer will work. Take pictures and notes where each piece goes. You just need soap and water to clean the parts. Solvents are abrasive so use them with care.
The motherboard inside the notebook computer cost about 75% of the price of the computer, so your best bet is to clean instead forking over several hundred US dollars for the replacement.
