any debian/ubunt based liveCD's that boot ok on iMac 27"
I have a 27 inch iMac with ATI Radeon HD 4670, and 8GB of Ram.
When I try to boot a 64 bit Linux Mint LiveCD, I get a black screen as soon as the X server loads. Are there any, up to date, 64 bit debian/ubunt based liveCD's, That work ob my hardware?
In general, what distribution works the best with Apple Hardware?
I poked around the Ubuntu forums a bit, and it seems you can boot the live cd of 10.04 just fine, install it, and then install the proprietary ATI drivers. 10.10 isn't quite ready yet, but security patches and updates are pretty current with 10.04. You'd just be looking for the Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit version, found here:

thanks. I know about 10.4 working, but it's up to date. I need something, that I can distribute to other mac users, that has the latest gnome release. I can't put the ATI drivers on a LiveCD without violating the GPL.
I'd suggest you could give the live 10.10 disc (both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions) a try to see if they work. If they do, you can simply tell your users that they'll have to install the proprietary drivers on their own. If the X server doesn't work, you can log in from virtual terminal 1 (press CTL + Alt + F1, or CTL + Option + F1) and configure the drivers manually using APT. There's instructions here:
