LinuxQuestions.org - Another USB-Flash-Drive Post- I read all the others so what now

I am getting the usual errors everyone else seems to get

[root@localhost keith]# mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1,
or too many mounted file systems

I think Im not writing the mount command correctly I really new to linux so much of the following doesn't really mean much to me but
it what other posters suggested to do to find out whats what and whats where, its just I don't really know what to make of it all
