another question about winmodem in mandrake 9.1

well, i installed from linmodems.org the correct drivers from my lucent win modem. mandrake detects it and kppp too. BUT kppp always tells me that the modem don't answer. i tried to change some options in the configuration dialogs but... well, no comment. so, what should i exactly do to use that modem? please help me... thanks a lot.

I also had to un-install the firewall before I could get internet access in that Mandrake release as well.
