Angry AMD Phenom 1055T and ASRock 980DE3

I had all of these parts laying around (Antec P182 case; ASRock 980DE3 MoBo; AMD Phenom 1055T CPU; 24 GB RAM (2 - 8 GB and 2 - 4 GB); 6 WD hard disks ( 2 - 2 TB and 4 - 1 TB); open port on my KVM switch. I surmised that this would be a good file server on my network.
I put all of the above parts together and took a look at it using GParted. All looked good so I installed CentOS 7.6 from dvd. The install went perfect with no obvious issues.
So I booted the machine post install. I got USB messages stating that the USB cable was bad. I re-booted and hit the F2 key to update the BIOS and turned USB off (everything talks via wired ethernet).
I re-booted and it got all the way to where the grub menu would be and just stopped at that point. It has been sitting at that point for about an hour with just the blinking cursor.
Any ideas?????
Gene

BIOS reset to start with. Ensure your CentOS installation's device is contained within the BIOS boot order, and the BIOS is set to allow booting of the type CentOS is installed as (BIOS/Legacy/CSM vs UEFI). Try booting the installed system via the installation media, then verify Grub seems to be properly installed and configured. Nothing happening when you should be seeing Grub can happen when the BIOS is only allowing to boot from UEFI media, but you have none available, such as nothing to boot except a Legacy/BIOS distro installation.
