I have downloaded the powernow k8 driver from AMD's site. In the readme file it says copy the .c and .h files in arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq directory but there is no /arch in the root should i make a new directory with this name or this directory is somewhere else?

Secondly, after the installation of .h and .c files of the driver how am i going to use the cool&quiet capability of my cpu? After compliation will there be a utility for it?

Well the reference diretory is kernel sources root directory so you'll have to install kernel sources (corresponding to your running kernel)

If you have to add files in kernel sources, you'll have to enable cpufreq feature in your kernel and then recompile it... Then I think you'll be able to access new features either through /proc directory or thanks to a soft like cpuspeedy
