Am I the only one?

Am I the only person who thinks that ALL hardware WILL work with linux ?.............

I have put linux on eight different computers (multiple times) and all of them were in no way manufacturer related.....and all had different components...and every webcam, printer, thumbdrive,cdrom,dvdrom,dvd/cdrom/dvdrw, soundcard, and modem I have ever had has worked with the exception of my first winmodem
experience.....wich newbies today dont have to worry about.... ( It may have taken a little research but I got there) for every windows program ......yes there is an alternative (or if not .... you problably dont need or want it anyway).....the bash and tcsh command line kicks msdos 6 ways till sunday.......lets not even talk about security....
or stability.....

Ive been using Linux now for almost 4 years without putting windows
back on any hd.......I get tired of hearing .....I cant get it to work .....Im going back to windows.....all you have to do is read the man pages....and tutorials....and visit the forums......and eventually it will all make sense......

If you dont like to read , or you just like to point and click.....and play with absolutely no control or idea of whats going on in the background of your operating system......then windows is the only operating system you need..........and when you get the pretty blue
screen of death , and dont know how to fix it call MICRO$OFT and wait on hold for 30 mins just to hear them tell you to restart your friggin computer and that its just a bug in the program you were running......

ahhhhhhhhhhh.......Im through ranting........

Uh.. - rants fit better in General, not Linux General.

No, that's my experience as well. Linux - smooth quick installs with few problems.

I am on my 3rd week of trying to get Windows 2000 Pro to work correctly. I had one Microsoft product what worked well, the TRS-80 Model I Level II Microsoft Basic in ROM. I never managed to crash it, but all others crashed easily.

I get peeved that there is no DOS memory accessed by the up arrow. That absolutely sucks and takes tons of typing to get anything right.

Now what is the point ????

If it is only comfort that u want and you don't want to know what is happening in the background, linux graphical interface is also pretty Ok..

However I personally feel that it would be better if we knew what is happening on the background because ....
Who knows it may get struck up at a crucial time n u can't
"CTRL+ALT+DEL" always.....You will be forced to fix it yourself .Take it as a warning and an advice my dear friend

You'll feel bad later for having ditched LiNuX for some "winsucks"

SaTaN, use spell check or something please. Your post is almost unreadable.

Standard English would work nicely.

I hope you knocked on wood before posting that or I don't want to hear about your next install from hell.

I think the truth is that OS software is sometimes difficult to install with hardware it is not specifically configured to and shipped with.
I would suggest there is luck involved for anyone who says either Linux or Windows has time and again installed flawlessly.
Enjoy it while you can.

There is actually hardware that will not work on Linux, for example I recently bought a NIC that would not work at all, not even with ndiswrapper, even tho it was reported to work with it. Maybe it was just broken. There was also this weird $ony capture card that came with a VAIO PC, it was something strange, I could never get it to work, I couldn't even find out what the hell it was, it didn't have any kind of identification on it, and lspci didn't pick it up either.

Lexmark printers will have issues, but they are POS printers anyway, never buy them. They get paper jams every other print and the ink dries in the cartridges. A pure waste of money they are.

There is also the JMicron SATA controller, on a Gigabyte board it kept causing problems, mostly due to IRQ conflict or badly designed board, either way the only way to solve it was disable it in the BIOS, that solved all issues. It was not incompatible hardware, just annoying hardware.

For me it was a USB modem that bugged me, but nowadays the support got better. There was hope back then since it was conexant but couldn't get it to work.
My webcam in my laptop computer (LG) currently doesn't work but I didn't try to make it work since I'm too busy.

It's funny - I usually read that nothing works in Linux or the running joke among talk backs (meaning replies to static text like news sites) is that Linux works on toasters, or the popular reply to every news story: It works in my Linux shmubuntoo.
