alsamixer wont let me adjust input volume
Hi there.
My problem is that my input can't be adjusted. I'm guessing something causes alsa not to find the input port. I followed the instructions on alsa's site for my soundcard as http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...&module=ca0106 <-- that page displays. But the mic just wont work. http://133an.sytes.net/~zeus/alsamixer.png <--- there is a screenshot of the alsamixer at work, and as you can see, I have some capture options, but none of them are adjustable. Please tell me if you need any logs of some sort in order to help me, and I'll give them to you. I'm pretty new to running linux on my workstation, so any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: The reason that I put it under the hardware section is that I'm guessing it's the soundcard that's not correctly set up. |
What distro are you using ? Did you download the alsa package yourself and compiled it ? Or are you using the modules that were installed with the default kernel ?
Now a silly thing ! Try the command "amixer scontrols" and see the state of various controls. If capture port is muted, try unmuting it. You would use something like "amixer sset <capture-control> unmute" where <capture-control> would have to be replaced by the name of the capture control output by the command "amixer scontrols". If you have set up .asoundrc to run, try to disable it and see if it works. Just rename the file .asoundrc or move it elsewhere. |
I'm using slackware 10.2, and I downloaded the package from alsa-mixer.org and compiled it after their instructions as showed on the page that I pasted in my last message.
Now, the "silly" thing actually gave some result. I didn't get it to work, but I found some info that might be of use. The "amixer scontrols" command gave me the following output: Quote:
So I ran "amixer sset 'AC97 in' unmute" which didn't really work as I had hoped, but it did give the following output: Quote:
And if so, how would I go about to do it? I tried a couple of random commands such as "amixer sset 'AC97 in' Mono Capture", but that was apparently completely wrong. Nothing changes in the info of the card if I set it to unmute or mute. And I run the script as root. Thanks for replying btw. I really appreciate it. EDIT: Added versionnumber to distro |
