Situation has gone from bad to worse. Upgraded kernel and attempted to manually install driver and now alsaconf can't even find my soundcard.

I've RTFM by googling for other posts and haven't found a solution. Any help would be appreciated.

A quick google suggests that Ectiva EV1938 is not supported by ALSA, but OSS should work.

Hope that helps somewhat...

thank you, netcrawl. ALSACONF had recognized card before I attempted to manually load the driver. ALSACONF still recognizes card in earlier kernel.

You sure that the appropriate kernel driver module is present on your newer kernel? Go back and see which module is used on your older kernel.

If not, build yourself a new kernel.
