what do you mean "in tar files now?" As a project, ALSA have always distributed their code as tar source archives, they always will. it's up to fedora or other thrid parties to create RPM's for a particular rpm base distro. if you're simply trying to do a driver upgrade, you don't need a tutorial or anything, just find a 1.0.8 rpm from rpm.pbone.net or somewhere sillimar and update the packages. the configurations are extremely unlikely to be affected at all.
