Alsa (sound blaster 16)
Hi,
Alsa
i have a sound blaster 16 and i have installed on SLACKWARE 8.1 but it didn't work so i reinstalled linux so my question is:
are there any tips to installing alsa on sb 16?

i don't think slackware is going to set that stuff up for you.
you have to uncomment the right modules, to get them
to load, but you can test with modprobe sb, and see if
that loads.

the sound will work without alsa if you compile it into your kernel. Alsa provides better sound thought, as well as more flexibility. I think you need to install alsa, as well as the alsa driver for your soundcard. (It's very easy in gentoo, not completely sure in slack). Once you have it started, you need to start the alsa daemen. Then type alsa mixer (uh, as root I think) and unmute the volumes.

the alsa website has howto's for most cards.

yeah,
but i have tried to install it comes up with the problem before i reinstalled slack to get rid of alsa.
