ALSA sound always goes through one of Nvidia hdmi output
Hello.
I have Nvidia card with monitor and TV. Both have speackers. And I can't manually play sound on TV.
Code:
bash-4.3$ aplay -L | grep CARD
sysdefault:CARD=PCH
front:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
surround21:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
surround40:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
surround41:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
surround50:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
surround51:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
surround71:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
iec958:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=2
bash-4.3$ aplay -l | grep card
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC892 Analog [ALC892 Analog]
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
card 1: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
aplay -D hw:1,3 piano2.wav - plays monitor device
aplay -D hw:1,7 piano2.wav - plays monitor device
aplay -D hw:1,8 piano2.wav - plays monitor device
Maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

no but can you describe what kind of cables connect your PC to the TV please?
BTW your aplay hw 1 output already tells you that card1 is playing to the monitor which I can safely assume means you have a hdmi cable from PC to monitor.
Leaping ahead....either you have a hdmi cable going from PC to TV
or 3.5 mm cable from analog "holes" direct from PC to TV
or cable to some surround sound system....but it connects to TV input but that is not clear to me.

They are both hdmi and connected to the same NVIDIA.
There is no problem with TV or cable or card as by hardware.
I deleted ~/.asound.conf and /etc/asound.conf, rebooted and created new /etc/asound.conf with simple
Code:
defaults.pcm.card 1
defaults.pcm.device 3
defaults.ctl.card 1
and once it helped me until reboot and sound start to play on TV, not on a monitor. But there is no sense in this file and manually pointing device in "aplay -D"
Looks like some conflict somewhere.

Which card does ALSA default to if you don't tell it anything?
Apparently you need to change that.
Keep in mind that they start counting at 0 (zero), so card 1 is actually the 2nd card.
