Question ALSA Mixer options for SB Live! 24bit

Hi,

I have a Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit pci card, and a PCTV Pro TV tuner card.

In Win XP, when I wanted to watch cable television, I needed to disable a certain mixer option in the Creative Surround Mixer in order to hear sound from the tuner card. It was located in the Record Source for Line-In, and was called "Do Not Monitor".

Whenever I executed PCTV Vision (to watch TV), this option always enabled itself by default. I had to re-enter the mixer and disable it, or I had no sound from the tuner card. (The tuner card sends sound from an external output through a cable to the Line-In/Mic-In of the soundcard).

In Ubuntu Feisty, when I'm in motv, or any other tuner application, I also get no sound (only in regards to the cable tuner - My soundcard is configured properly otherwise). So I checked Gnome's mixer, Alsamixergui, and the curses-based alsamixer. Neither of these had the "Do Not Monitor" option. Where can I find this option, or is it not supported yet? Or is it a module parameter?

I'll bet the solution's real simple, too.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

Your TV card is connected to the soundcard, right? Can you try rising the volume of the "Line in" channel in the record tab of Kmix (or Gnome counterpart) and see if the monitor signal is enabled (green button on in Kmix, in Gnome I think the channel must be unmuted). Hope this helps.

Nope that didn't work, but thanks for the suggestion. I didn't think to try that anyway.

Well I wanted to get my Pinnacle 300i to work under Ubuntu yesterday but the driver module couldn't get loaded. So all I can say is that it works well with Mandriva under KDE. Have you already tried TvTime?

Under Mandriva my TV card is controlled via the AUX channel. If you haven't tried yet ...

No I haven't tried Tvtime. I'll give it a look next chance I get. I think this is really a mixer issue. The windows solution is to disable the 'do not monitor' option of the Line-in recording source. I've tried all other mixer controls, but I think it's only Line-in that governs the input volume.
