Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

alsa install

Hey everyone,

I don't have a hardware problem or anything, but I'm just curious to know a few things. First off, I just reinstalled ALSA and it works great but I just want to know where it's loading its modules from. It all used to be in /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa and there were some aliases in /etc/modules.conf but now nothing is there, and rc.alsa doesn't exist. I was under the impression that everything in Slackware loads from the /etc/rc.d directory, but maybe I'm wrong. If anyone can give me a rundown on the steps Linux takes at startup to load various things, as well as give me a specific answer to where my ALSA modules are loading from, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Well I suppose the first question is: Are they even being loaded at boot? Try doing 'cat /proc/modules' after boot to see if they are loaded.

Or/then, try looking in '/etc/rc.d/init.d/'. That's where my alsa boot script is located.

they are being loaded. i run lsmod right after i boot and they're there. snd- this and snd- that. i'll do some more hunting. all my startup scripts are right in /etc/rc.d/ as rc.* files.
