alsa driver compiled and installed... but no sound

kernel: 2.6.11
distro: slackware
hardware: Audigy LS

i can't get linux to recognise my card. i have installed and compiled the drivers correctley.. at the moment i've build them into the kernel... i had the same problem using modules. this is the problem...
(output from lspci)
01:09.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs: Unknown device 0007
01:09.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs: Unknown device 7005

not really sure where to go from here.

one possibility...

this may be meaningless, but with my distro (Gentoo),
ALSA wasn't completely installed. I had to finish that,
and then when I still couldn't get simple sounds like beeps and clicks,
I noticed a small 'warning/hint' that I had no default sound package installed,
and if I wanted to change the sounds for the GUI I had to emerge the SOUND Package too.

Since it only contains a few default beeps, I don't understand why they didn't just
make it a part of the auto-install! I guess they have to give dummies like me something
to freak out about for a couple of days as a gag.

that its not identified on the list doesnt mean it doesnt have to work.. please post ur lsmod to see if any sound modules have been loaded.

then u need the packages alsa-base, alsa-utils.
and maybe alsa-oss. not sure.

and at least in my distro, u need to add ur user to the audio group.
