ALSA after re-compiling kernel
 

Every time I re-compile the kernel, I need to re-install ALSA, which works beautifully. However, isn't there a way to avoid having to do this every time!?!

With the 2.6 series kernels the Alsa drivers are included in the kernel source tree so no, you don't have to. :)

But with Linux 2.4 and earlier the answer is yes - you need to build the Alsa drivers against the current kernel version and configuration. This is true for the 2.6 kernel too but in that case you would probably just use the in-kernel Alsa version.

which version of ALSA in in the 2.6.3 kernel? and how do i check from now on, so i don't have to ask stupid questions like this?

another question...

and come to thing of it...i did an install of my ethernet driver as well...but don't have to re-build that every time i rebuild the kernel--so why do i need to with ALSA?
