Alacatel Speedtouch USB modem and Mandrake 9.2

Hi.

I've just sucessfully installed Mandke 9.2. It looks good and most stuff is working fine. My only problem at the moment is getting my Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem to work. When I use the connection wizard, the modem is picked up as ADSL and is recognised as Alcatel Speedtouch USB. Then I get an option when I proceed from that to get the microcode for it from either a floppy, the windows partition (which won't work) or to try later. I downloaded the driver from a website (can't remember it right ow) using win xp and saved it to a floppy. Unzipped the floppy in Mandrake, and chose the floppy option. It then came up with "No mgmt.o present" or something similar. I understand that I have to copy the mgmt.o file to the root of the floppy, but I can't find mgmt.0 anywhere.

Theres probably a really simple answer to this, but then I might be doing it totally wrong.

Any tips?

Cheers,
DBG.

I have had similar problems with the speedtouch since mid-summer, and ive yet to get it working, i *still* cant find the mgmt.o file. So.......how bout getting a BB router? Simple solution but a little expensive, i know. Bit OT, but good luck

The mgmt.o file is part of the package yoou can find on the alcatel site. You van also rename is from the Windows stuff, which you recaived with the modem. Read the FAQ at speedtouchconf or the howto from Peter Schram (pschram in google).

Good luck.

Hi i had difficulty setting the speedtouch to work on linux, however i found an easier way to do it, which can be found at:

http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net

This script will automatically set up your modem for you.

Good luck and let us know if you managed to get it working.
