Airport Extreme with attached USB harddrive...

I'm having trouble getting my Ubuntu to locate let alone log into the airport extreme in order to allow access to the drive via my linux boxes (Ubuntu 8.04)

Here's the setup...

1 Airport Extreme with an IOMEGA USB harddrive attached
1 macbook (which accesses said Airport/iomega just fine
1 Gateway PC running Ubuntu 8.04

Is there a protocol or something I'm not running that would help?

Any help would be appreciated - if something for this has already been posted feel free to point me to it because I couldn't find it in a search.

Thanks!

i had no idea what a airport extreme was. i did a search and it pointed me to a website on apple.com.

it seems that airport extreme is apple's fancy word for a wireless router (why dont they just call it a wireless router). amways, it seems to be using ieee's 802.11n networking standard. does your gateway have an 802.11n capable card or is it just 802.11a/b/g ?

would it be possible for the airport extreme to broadcast in 802.11b or g so the gateway-pc can connect to it ?
hope that helps.

Well...

The computer in question isn't wireless.

The Airport Extreme has wired network connections in back as well (it doubles as a 4 port hub/switch)

And the computer is plugged into the back of the Airport Extreme.

sorry i misunderstood.

it could be that the router only accepts other apple mac (media access card/ hardware) addresses ?

maybe dhcp isnt set up right ?

what do you get with ifconfig or when you ping the router or mac computer ?

can you access the internet using the same network card and cable ?

also, most routers need to reset/ power cycle to recognize a new mac (media access card/ hwaddress).
