Airpods Pro 2

I am having an issue connecting my Airpods Pro 2, looking for some help where to continue my search. Things I have done:

Switched edit /etc/bluetooth/main.conf to set ControllerMode = bredr. This allows me to pair the device.

Subsequently the device shows up in sound as AAC.

I try to play sound, I get the following error in journalctl
Code:
Dec 30 10:39:00 pop-os wireplumber[2659]: 0x5586267c3028: error 24
Dec 30 10:39:00 pop-os bluetoothd[901]: src/profile.c:ext_io_disconnected() Unable to get io data for Hands-Free Voice gateway: getpeername: Transport endpoint is not connected (107)
Dec 30 10:39:00 pop-os acpid[895]: input device has been disconnected, fd 28
Device disconnects, never having played any audio.
I have no clue where to continue. Googled for multiple days. Can't even figure out what wireplumber error 24 is supposed to mean. Does anybody have any tips what I could try next? or what error 24 means? As far as I have found it might be related to wireplumber trying to connect to pulse, but failing?

Would help if you told us anything about your system, such as version/distro of Linux and what kind of computer/hardware/bluetooth it has. Can try to guess that it's running PopOS based only on the few lines you posted. Not sure what you've looked at for multiple days, but putting in "popos linux bluetooth airpods" pulls up many how-to guides...which ones have you looked at/followed??

Thank you for your response. I have finally managed to solve it. Even though my internal Bluetooth (Intel, Dell 9720) should technically support this device. In practice it did not.

Plugging in an external USB (Asus BT500) allows me to use the device properly.

Seems like a firmware issue to me.
