AIC79xx - can I turn off RAID?
I have a rather stubborn problem - this is the setup:
A 32 bit Intel server, running Redhat AS 4.7 (kernel 2.6.78 or something like that). An Adaptec ASC 29320ALP is installed and connected to an Eonstor A12U-G2421, which is a disk array with its own builtin RAID. Linux detects the controller, using aic79xx, and I can create a partition (1.5TB) with fdisk. When I try tp create filesystem, it runs for about 30 secs counting up the inode tables and then stops. Dmesg shows a number of errors:
sd 0:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00010000
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 10711
Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block 10648
lost page write due to I/O error on sda1
Buffer I/O error on device sda1, logical block 10649
lost page write due to I/O error on sda1
...
According to Eonstor the solution is to set certain options in the card BIOS and make sure to turn off any RAID functionality on the card and in the driver.
Adaptec have a driver without RAID, but I am a little reluctant to use it unless the one that comes with the kernel can't be tweaked to do what I need. But how? Are there any options to set somewhere?
