agere ac97 Modem doesn't work with linux?

Hi!

I have a Acer Travelmate 291LCi with a modem in it that doesn' work.
I am working with a 2.6.1 Kernel.
The Model is:
lspci says:
Modem: Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Modem Controller
WinXP says:
Agere Systems AC'97 Modem

I tried with many ltmodem-, slmodem- driver but it still doesn't work.

Has anyone experience with this modem?

Did you try the smart link drivers with a 2.4.xx kernel?

Cheers

No I didn't.

I don't want to 'downgrade' on a 2.4 Kernel because I am happy with my 2.6 Kernel.

Anyone know if there is a driver for a 2.6 Kernel?

What I was getting at was that if you'd had it working with a 2.4 kernel then you might have a better idea of how to proceed with 2.6. Basically, smart link have a driver for their modems which works(?) with some implementations of their hardware and kernel 2.6 but not for mine. If you knew for instance that all versions of their earlier drivers worked then you'd be much more likely to find a working version of this version. Plus in the interim, you could always keep a working 2.4 kernel, and modem setup just for downloading those big unwieldy files that are difficult to transfer onto your linux partition.

Here's where smartlink keep their drivers anyhow.

I have a TravelMate 800LCI and I think the modem is the same.
For me last drivers at ftp://ftp.smlink.com/linux/unsupported (2.9.6 for now) works with the 2.6.x kernel, even I have some performance problem.
