After compiling the 2.6.2 kernel with Debian (sound)...

Hi!

I've just compiled the 2.6.2 kernel, and ALSA is compiled in the kernel. The guides that I've read on the 'net, tell me to download alsa-lib and alsa-utils.

I can only find alsa-utils with apt, and a dependecy package (alsa-base) is installed too. Is this what I am supposed to do? Just install the alsa-utils and let apt do the rest?

Mats, even if you are using Debian I suggest you download the Alsa source packages from the Alsa website and build them. You should only need alsa-lib and alsa-utils, but you may need the snddevices script found in the alsa-driver package to create the /dev entries and symlinks if they are not already present.

It does not work... I have tried lots of things I've found elsewhere on the 'net... still, the only thing i hear is noise (not sound, kind of when the speaker is waiting for sound...)...

Please help...
