After ATI install STILL Fglrx, even used Envy..

I have been trying to get a linux distro going for DAYS without some kind of problem.

This one is really getting annoying because I was able to install Kubuntu many times without having it, and now it's there. And I was using Envy each time. I was never able to do it manually.

ERROR: Module fglrx does not exist in /proc/modules
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/misc/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted

My Fglrxinfo is still reporting Mesa. I hate this Mesa!

Yes FGLRX is blacklisted, yes I have commented out "#install fglrx /sbin/lrm-video fglrx $CMDLINE_OPTS" in "/etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video", Yes my xorg.conf says fglrx in the driver section. I'm still reporting Mesa.

Mysticle31 12-06-2007 07:53 PM

alright. I just went and uninstalled EVERYTHING that I could find that has to do with video drivers in text mode, rebooted and it booted into text mode, installed the ATI drivers and got the error again when reinstalling the ATI drivers, rebooted again into X and I STILL see Mesa!

rickh 12-06-2007 10:07 PM

What distro are you using?

Mysticle31 12-07-2007 01:41 AM

Kubuntu

..10 character limit.

Mysticle31 12-07-2007 07:25 PM

I keep getting

ERROR: Module fglrx does not exist in /proc/modules

I've reinstalled Kubuntu/Xububntu so many times now. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to try fixing this.

Mysticle31 12-07-2007 07:30 PM

I just tried shutting down X and running this.

sudo rmmod fglrx

but it says ERROR: module FGLRX is in use.

so I go here

cd /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/misc

lo and behold fglrx.ko exists in here.

I also went to /proc and found modules, which is a text file.
Inside I searched for fglrx and found

fglrx 1489004 3 - Live 0xf8d4b000 (P)

Mysticle31 12-07-2007 10:35 PM

Someone has to know something....

ERROR: Module fglrx does not exist in /proc/modules
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/misc/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted

or just

ERROR: Module fglrx does not exist in /proc/modules

Mysticle31 12-07-2007 11:37 PM

Here is part of my Xorg.0.log. I cut it down a little bit.

Can someone who knows what their doing tell me what's going on?
