Advice on Nokia cable and gnokii
[Mmmm - not sure if this is a hardware or software issue]
I have googled my head off, looked through all the gnokii archives - and searched here, of course - looking to find out which cable I should use. I've been looking to see anyone has this working and haven't found an answer anywhere. I saw people reporting problems, but no-one ever saying "Thanks, that fixed it. It's working now." :( The situation is that I have a Nokia 3120. I found that gnokii looks like a solution for connecting the phone to Linux. My God! One day I may even be able to sync it with Evolution, but that seems like a long way away. Right now, I just want to know if I have a shot at this. Anyways, according to the Nokia website, there are 2 different cables that I can use - the DKU-5 or the CA-42. Now, I understand that these cables are -ahem- strange. Even though they are USB, they have weird things in them. So, the Linux USB device shows they don't work. At the gnokii Cables page it says that the DKU-5 basically emulates the serial port through the USB port. OK, so I understand why the USB device list above shows that it doesn't really work. But I was pleased to see that it looks like gnokii can communicate with them. Looking at the gnokii faq, it says that for my model I should use the DKU-5 cable. So, my questions are: - has anyone got a Nokia 3120 working with gnokii/Linux? Which cable was used etc? - has anyone got either the DKU-5 or CA-42 on any Nokia phone working with gnokii? What cable? What model phone? Whew! Thanks for any help ws |
