ADSL modem setup - almost there!

Right, I've tried Mandrake 9.2 and Red Hat 9, and I'm having the same problem.

I've got a Sagem Fast 800 USB ADSL modem. When install the drivers, the installation goes fine, and the device is recognised under usbview. Mandrake even recognises it as a Sagem modem in the control centre.

However, when I do ifconfig -a to list my network devices, the modem does not show up. The installation readme say it should be there as "ADImodem", but is just isn't there. As a result, the machine can't connect to the internet,

Any ideas what's happening? I really need my internet connection going!

No ideas people?
