Adding a Physical Drive to an LVM System

I'm running CentOS 5.0 on a AMD64 with a SATA drive and was thinking about adding another physical SATA drive.

Since CentOS used the LVM approach, I was wondering if there was anything special that I needed to don't try it!!

Can I format it with a different file system than the ext2 on the current drive?

If I can do it, will it automatically be able to see the drive or is there something further that has to be done.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

That should work fine. Obviously, the new space will fall outside your LVM (unless you use vgextend) so you can use any filesystem you like .CentOS supports fewer of those than most distributions but it does support both ext2 and ext3.
